On Mary Farah / Background

Mary Farah was born in Michigan, U.S.A., on August 11, 1972, and was raised in Nazareth, in the Market area since the age of four. Mary started drawing when she was 16 years old, when she was still at Nazareth Baptist School. She started drawing as a helping tool to let stress and pressure out; afterwards her drawing developed to be her passion. She obtained her Law degree in England in 1998, afterwards, she continued and finished her degree in English Literature in 2003.

The Influence of the Market on her Art

Mary spent her childhood and adolescence in the old area of the Market, amongst the historical buildings of Nazareth, the city of Christ. The atmosphere of the market and its surroundings left their prints on Mary's soul and personality. Mary's interest and love for the market enhanced her interest to study the history of these buildings, by asking the various experts in the field to obtain a better comprehension of the nature of these buildings. It should be noted that the Farah Family has been dwelling in the city of Nazareth for around 300 years, which strengthens Mary's links with the city of Nazareth. The history of Nazareth was always a favorite subject for the members of the Farah's Family, where research and private archives were initiated amongst the members of the family.

Style

Mary Farah is a fine artist that depends on her fingers to create a unique charming collection. Mary's style is modern, on the one hand, it reflects reality in various ways, and on the other, it mirrors the artist's rich imagination. Themes are a blender of personal experiences rooted in her real world, coloured and manipulated by the artist's imagination. Her individuality is evident in all her drawings, for her drawings are the conclusion of all these elements combined together.

The contours and colours in Mary's drawings convey the soul of the buildings; for Mary's drawings are not only concerned with the outer shape of the building but mostly with its soul. The drawings draw the viewer to their story and narrator; for the drawings whisper and converse with the viewer, stating the history and story.

The Importance of Mary's Work

The value of Mary's work is not only limited to the artistic value of the drawing; a thing that is evident in her unique contour and colour. But an added value is in the fact that Mary is preserving the history of her beloved city of Nazareth in her drawing. She is not only preserving the looks of the building but more importantly: it's soul and story. Many historical buildings in Nazareth are being replaced and substituted with modern buildings; a fact that is causing the loss of these beautiful buildings. By the means of arts the history of the ancient city of Nazareth is saved and preserved.
